The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This relined canvas is held under tension and remains stable. There is a fine pattern of craquelure across the surface and appears to be in a very good state of preservation. There has been some thinning of the paint over time, particularly in the dark passages. Ultraviolet examination confirms the above and reveals a thick layer of varnish, with some signs of frame wear along the edges of the painted canvas. The painting otherwise it is in a very good state of preservation, with a few minor retouches in the background.
